Would you like to help out feeding the less fortunate? Would you like to plant trees to improve the environment? Would you like to write Christmas cards for the elderly? Would you like to help eradicate Polio from the World? If Yes – Then Rotary International or more specifically the Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills is for you! Below are some of our activities - visit our website for the full story.

  • Activity TREE PLANTING: A Rotary District 9810 initiative, MASH took on the leadership of this project in 2012 and with the Rotary Club of Doncaster and Whitehorse & Monash Rotaract, we plant seeds in December/January and then travel to Beaufort in late August early September to plant the seedlings. See website for more information.
  • Activity FIRST FRIDAY DINNER: The First Friday Dinner is a monthly meals program established in 2012 after club members identified a demand in the Box Hill area for additional meals for those in need. DSCN1022a The purpose of the meal is not just to provide a well balanced home cooked meal in a safe, warm and friendly community environment but also an opportunity to meet with others.
  • Activity PRIMARY SCHOOL SPEECH COMPETITION. MASH co-ordinates the hosting of the annual Primary Schools Speech Contest, showcasing the speaking skills of senior primary students who have won the preliminary competitions held at their own schools in our local area. The quality of the speakers and their speeches leaves us confident in the future of our country.
  • Activity KARA HOUSE REFURBISHMENT: MASH Rotary has assisted in this Rotary year Kara House, a Box Hill refuge for abused women, with further improvements worth $11500. The 3 elements of this latest assistance are as follows: Supply and installation of four Mitsubishi 2.5KW Air-Conditioners $7,700. Supply and fit new floor covering to kitchen $2000. Supply of kitchen table and six chairs $1800. Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) provided $5750 towards the project and the Bendigo Bank provided $3814.
  • Activity 2018 MODEL UNITED NATIONS ASSEMBLY (MUNA): MUNA is an activity for Year 11 students at schools in our area to develop skills including communication, public speaking & negotiating. MUNA in held in our District each year in May at the Victorian Parliament House. Two students are selected from each school to represent a UN country & to debate motions proposed by the students on behalf of the country they represent. Students are encouraged to dress in the traditional costume of the country they represent.
  • Fundraising WHITEHORSE FARMERS’ MARKET: As the birds chirp and the roosters crow, life in the suburbs on a Sunday begins to stir. While the coffee is brewing, there is a group of Rotarians up and about by 6am at the Combined Rotary Clubs Whitehorse Farmers’ Market. The second Sunday of every month means a 5.15 am alarm for this dedicated group.
  • Fundraising ANTIQUES, RETRO & COLLECTABLES FAIR: Our Club runs an annual two day Retro, Antiques and Collectables Fair at the end of May each year. The current venue can accommodate 36 stalls and we receive excellent support from the stallholders who provide a wide variety of antiques, retro and collectable items for sale. The customers of the stallholders extends from our local area to country Victoria with many regulars coming each year. The fair involves all members of the club, Whitehorse Rotaractors, Koonung Interactors, friends and some Rotarians from our sister club in Beaufort.
  • Fundraising SAUSAGE SIZZLE: There are no bad snags emanating from MASH when it comes to community involvement through the humble ‘sausage sizzle’. MASH members who are involved love it – and why not – a great way of being visible in the community, raising money and having fun all packed into 3 hours. WHERE: Outside Breadstreet Bakery, Hamilton Street, Mont Albert (Melway 46 K10). WHEN: Most Saturday mornings 10.00am to midday.
  • Fundraising MINCE PIES: The selling of fruit mince pies has been a huge fundraiser over the years for the club. Last year, 417 dozen were sold raising a gross $5,827. Each year the club donates $3 per dozen from sales by our club and other Rotary Clubs to a nominated charity and in the 2018 year this will be the End Polio Now campaign. In previous year’s these charities have included Disaster Aid Australia, the Deafness Foundation and Australian Rotary Health. The club offers local organisations $3 per dozen for any orders they submit to go back to their preferred fundraiser.
